Interview with Q.

Louisiana hip hop artist, “Q.” , is a pretty new name on the Louisiana music scene, but he is starting to make a little noise. Born in Portland, Ore. he has roots in the city, but grew up in a small wooded area outside of New Orleans. He is now currently a part of the Amerika’s Most Wanted Team (AMW). He has plent of dope music on the way. But in the meantime, go check this young MC out!

What is your name?  My name is Quentin, but I go by Q. And yes, it requires the period (chuckles).

Where are you from?   I’m originally from Portland, Oregon. I didn’t stay there long so I guess you can say I’m from Louisiana. It’s all really a perspective thing.

How long have you been making music?   I’ve just started recording, but I’ve been around music basically my entire life.

How many songs /albums have you released to date?   I’ve only released one, Backwoods, about 2 weeks ago.

Can you tell us about your latest release and the background and inspirations behind it?   Backwoods is basically a song where I am reminiscing on my upbringing in the backwoods of Louisiana. Also a play on one of my favorite cigars to smoke, backwoods.

How have you ended up in the music industry?   God. Basically. I can’t really explain how I got in this position.

What do you think of the music industry in 2015?   I think people need to take chances on newer artists. And more attention should be directed towards Louisiana’s hip hop scene, to be honest.

Who do you think the most influential artist?   Outkast, Jay Z, Ab-Soul, Kid Cudi, Frank Ocean… The list goes on for days (laughs) but those are some of the more important ones.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?   I haven’t collaberated with anyone quite yet, but I’ve talked collaberation with Ambrè Perkins and Boo Milton.

Dead or alive, who would be your dream collaboration?   That’s a tough one, but I’d definitely have to choose between Bob Marley or Andre 3000

What was the first album you bought?   Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

What’s your favorite song at the moment? I don’t choose favorites. I just vibe out, depending on my mood.

Who is the most influential artist now, and 10 years ago? Travis Scott and Kanye West

If you had to sell your music collection tomorrow, what album would you leave in your draw?   The Carter 3, no contest.

How do you think you differ from other artists?   My content. I go over a lot of people’s heads especially with the 1st listen. That’s something I want to continue to do though. Eventually people will get it (laughs)

What is your favorite saying?   A lot of Bob Marley quotes are cool. I can’t choose one off the top right now.

What other hobbies or interests do you have?   Poetry! I like clothes and I enjoy modeling. So I guess you can say I’m into fashion too. I also play basketball a little.

Do you have any tattoos or piercings?  I have gauges in my ears and like 4 tattoos.

Tell us more about your upcoming project or this new project?   My upcoming project, Babies of the South, is basically my debut. It will include stories about love, life, my generation, people, and a few double standards in society. But that just scratches the surface..

What’s in the pipeline after this project?

Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music.

Thank you! I’ll be sure to do that!
