Jax is a rap artist with a modern and direct attitude. His sound features influences as diverse as old school rap and trap, tipping the hat off to artists as diverse as Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Mac Miller or Odd Future, only to mention a few. Recently, the artist announced the release of another inspiring single, “Freaken Weekend” (Prod. by Dan Fresh). As the title might imply, the song is all about getting loose on the weekend, and the energy is absolutely outstanding.
This track immediately strikes for the creative use of pitch-shifting in its melodies, as well as its sparse, yet rich beat. The 808-style drum machine samples are absolutely spot on, and the lyrical flow is slow, characterful and charismatic. This song has a nearly hypnotic feel, which works really well with the great choreography depicted in the song’s music video.
