What’s going on Beatsta.com my name is Mayor i am an emcee from Nashville, TN. I’m 21 years old i’ve been in the industry for 2 years, first as a DeeJay and now i am an artist. I released my first mixtape: “I Am Royalty” in May of last year and Aug 1st. 2015 i will be release my first album: “Good Vibes, Good Spirits.”
One thing about myself is that i am a very versatile artist you’ll never know what to expect from me next but two things that you’ll always get from me are quality and consistency. I love music, i put my heart and soul into to every single record and when you listen to my music you can definitely hear that. To be honest, i don’t really care how many records i sell, as long as i can be a positive influence to people lives and change the culture for the better then i feel like i’ve done my job. There’s a lot of uncertainty in the world today, but one thing that is for certain is that i will always give the people great music.
What is your name? Born Frederick Douglas Shelley, II but my stage name is Mayor

How long have you been making music? 2 years
How many songs /albums have you released to date? i’ve released a total of 30 songs so far in my career and i have released one mixtape and the album is on the way!
Can you tell us about your upcoming release and the background and inspirations behind it? My latest song is called: “Real” all the negatively i see in music right now especially in my hometown is inspiration behind the song. You know it’s a lot of guys out here talking about the life that they don’t even live and it’s a bad message to their fans and their misusing their influence. As an artist, so many people look up to you so why not use it for good? I mean i’m not saying you have to be a saint with angel wings and a halo but you don’t have to brag about shooting people either. In the first two verses i go after the artist that do this kind of thing but in the last verse you hear talk about how i want to help these artist as well because i’m really tired of seeing young talent getting locked or even worst getting killed because of the things they say in their music
How have you ended up in the music industry? It’s pretty funny actually, i really didn’t intend on it. When i first got into college i majored in Mass Communication, i wanted to a sports commentator. My advisor who was also the owner of the radio station at the college i attended didn’t have a spot for me to be color commentator so he told me why don’t you be a radio DeeJay until i have slot open. So i did that for two years, i started deejaying a lot parties and i fell in love with music. I always knew i could write but never knew how to get started so one day i ran into W.I.T. who is an incredible artist and my mentor, we were at a bowling alley and i spit some bars to him and told me i needed to get in studio. We went to the studio maybe a week later and the rest is history.
What do you think of the music industry in 2015? I think this is one of the best years for music especially for hip-hop in my opinion, you got Big Sean, Kendrick, Wale, Drake and J.Cole all put out incredible albums. Even the underground artists have put out good music like Big Krit, Logic, Dizzy Wright and so on and so on. It’s not even the summer yet and it’s already been a lot of great music released this year i can’t wait to see what else 2015 has in store
Who do you think the most influential artist? I would say Drake right now, how many artists can drop a mixtape not an album and sell 500K first week? Also pretty much every song Drake makes you have artist all over the world that remix his songs like name one independent artist that didn’t remix 0 to 100? I’ll wait… Another example when he remixed Versace a couple years ago the song was getting buzz but when Drake hopped on it he took to a level that Migos could never reach.
Who have you collaborated with so far in your career? W.I.T., and all the artist that are in my music group: “Good Vibes Crew” DeWayne, Jay Paris and Kelly Charpain. Me and Bryson Tiller we’re supposed to do a song together but we just couldn’t get it together but hopefully we can do a record together in the future
Dead or alive, who would be your dream collaboration? Drake, that guy pretty much makes artist careers so why not? haha
What was the first album you bought? I can’t even lie when i was in 7th grade i bought that Crime Mob album i forget the name but he had Rock Yo Hips and Circles on it… it stayed on repeat for like 2 months, can’t front.
What’s your favorite song at the moment? Even though it makes me feel some type of way i would have to say The Need To Know by Wale is my favorite song his whole album is dope by the way.
Who is the most influential artist now, and 10 years ago? Drake and Jay-Z
If you had to sell your music collection tomorrow, what album would you leave in your draw? Take Care i can’t even lie that album just gets to me haha
How do you think you differ from other artists? I just think i have a different story, a different message i say things most artist won’t i say what ever is on my mind i don’t hold back my thoughts.
What is your favorite saying? Hmmmm that’s a tough one don’t think i have one right now
What other hobbies or interests do you have? I love to act i’m focused on my music right now but i definitely want to get back into film
Do you have any tattoos or piercings? i have my ears pierced but no tats so far i might not ever get one either but who knows maybe…
Tell us more about your upcoming project or this new project? It’s a project that you’re really going to enjoy i had a lot of fun writing it and i’m sure you’re going to have alot of fun listening to it. It’s 16 tracks it has a lot great production on ill have the tracklist out on July 4th. it’ll be available on iTunes Google Play and Spotify August 1st i can’t wait for you guys to hear it!.
What’s in the pipeline after this project? I’ve got a lot things i’m working on after Good Vibes, Good Spirits. A couple collaborative projects with Jay Paris and W.I.T. #NoChillNovember coming up with tracks from me and the whole GVC. I also plan to drop another mixtape before the year ends as well too. Me and Devin Cruise got some music coming you’re going to get alot from me in 2015.
